Dr. Fotis Psomopoulos | Principal Investigator B'
Dr Fotis E. Psomopoulos works as a Principal Investigator B’ (Associate Professor level) at the Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), with a primary focus on bioinformatics workflows and computational analysis of large bio-datasets. He has received his doctorate and engineering diploma from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), in 2010 and 2004 respectively. In 2014 he has been awarded with a post-doctoral fellowship scholarship by the AUTh Research Committee. He has worked as a teaching assistant and academic fellow at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as a Visiting Professor at Quest University (Vancouver, Canada) and as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Western Macedonia. Moreover, he has participated as a researcher and project manager in several European (RAPP, Microme, ASSIST) and national research projects.
Dr. George Gavriilids | Postdoctoral Researcher
Dr George Gavriilidis is a Pharmacologist PhD/Post-doctoral researcher working at the Institute of Applied Biosciences(INAB) at the Center for Research and Technology Hellas(CERTH). He is interested in the application of Systems Pharmacology/Immunology on single cell RNA sequencing data (scRNA-seq).
Dr. Konstantinos Kyritsis | Postdoctoral Researcher
Konstantinos Kyritsis, PhD, is working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Applied Biosciences in the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB/CERTH). He received his BSc in Biology, and his MSc in “Biotechnology and Molecular Diagnostics” from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). During his studies, he completed a three-month Erasmus+ internship at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research, University of Copenhagen. He received a scholarship for his doctorate from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) in 2017, and completed his thesis, entitled “Systematic Analysis of the Expression of Ribosomal Protein Genes”, at the School of Pharmacy AUTH, in 2021. His research interests are currently focused on studying molecular mechanisms and unveiling patterns of functional significance by applying methods of statistical analysis as well as machine learning algorithms to Next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. Furthermore, his interests include developing bioinformatic tools and pipelines for integrating and visualizing heterogenous bio-data.
Nikolaos (Nikos) Pechlivanis | PhD Candidate
Nikos Pechlivanis works as a Bioinformatics engineer at the Institute of Applied Biosciences in the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas. He holds an engineering diploma of Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) where he completed his thesis entitle “Genomic data integration for facilitating machine learning applications”. Currently he is pursuing a PhD in the field of Computation Biology and Bioinformatics under the supervision of Dr. Fotis Psomopoulos. His research focuses on studying machine learning algorithms and computational techniques with respect to their corresponding applications on genomic and meta-genomic data. In addition to his research, Nikolas supports open source/science principles, in support of reusability and accessibility of scientific results. Moreover, he is interested in web development mostly working on server-side scripting by applying data wrangling and analysis techniques.
Styliani-Christina Fragkouli | PhD Candidate
Styliani-Christina (Stella) Fragkouli is currently a PhD candidate at the Biology department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA) and also works as a research assistant at the Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB) in the Center for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) under the supervision of Dr. Psomopoulos. She obtained her BSc in Physics in 2019 and MSc in Digital Media and Computational Intelligence in 2021, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). Her research interests include machine and deep learning, bioinformatics and somatic variant calling.
Vasileios Vasileiou | PhD Candidate
Vasileios Vasileiou is a Phd candidate, working as a Bioinformatician at the Institute of Applied Bioscience (INAB) in the Center for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). Overall, his research interests focus on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, specializing in Systems Biology and Multi-omics Integration analyses. He holds a BSc degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), while he obtained his MSc degree in Bioinformatics at the University of Birmingham (UoB).
Aspa Orfanou | Research Assistant
Aspa Orfanou works as a research assistant at the Institute of Applied Biosciences(INAB) at the Center for Research and Technology Hellas(CERTH). She obtained her BSc in Computer Science and Medical Informatics from University of Thessaly(UTH) in 2017 and her MSc in Bioinformatics from University of Crete(UOC) in 2021. In addition, she participated in ERASMUS exchange programme and studied for one semester in Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Nicosia,Cyprus. During her studies she completed a three-month Internship at INAB/CERTH. Moreover, she is interested in development of bioinformatic tools and pipelines for visualization and interpretation of genomic data.
Sofoklis Keisaris | Research Assistant
Sofoklis Keisaris works as a research assistant at the Institute of Applied Biosciences(INAB) in the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas(CERTH). He received his BSc in Biology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki(AUTH) with aspects on Ecology and Conservation Biology. After having cooperated with Hellenic Center of Marine Research (CERTH), he found interest in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. He is keen on developing bioinformatics tools and pipelines for a wide variety of biological data.
